I really like the new layout! Very bright and welcoming to prospective students. I especially love the icons at the bottom. Very easy to navigate. Love it!

It looks nice, but it is difficult to find links to the places that students use everyday such as e-mail, EKU Direct, and Blackboard.
November 17th, 2008 at 12:50 pm
I think it is harder to navigate. If the Email, blackboard, and things that students actually use were clearly defined, it would be perfect. I looked around for a couple minutes and couldn’t find these things. but other than that, it is nice.

The site looks too simplisitic and “cheap” I believe. While it’s a much needed improvement over the current one, I think it should be designed to reflect a growing institution with national distincition.

I think this site looks GREAT!!! It is more updated and seems like it will be easier to use. I really like the fact that it has what is going on throughout the campus and events coming up. It seems to be very welcoming for prospective users!! Great Job!!!

I like the new site. It seems to be very easy to use and addresses the needs of all the customers (students, faculty, staff, prospective students, etc.). I looked thru the admissions section and it seemed to be very well organized. I would be proud to refer someone to the site as an alum!

The new look for the home page is great. I really like the colors and the \cleaner\ look to the page. I also wondered about EKU Today for Students and Faculty. Shouldn’t it be for Staff and Faculty? Are you planning to incorporate EKU Students Today into just one item? I’m not sure about listing the link for the Faculty/Staff page under MyEku, and was a bit confused about some of the items and how they were listed on the Student Life link. Just my thoughts - great job! You all have done a lot of work, and it shows.

this one is great! seems much more appealing and easier to navigate!

Only one suggestion: Please make the “Alumni” button read “Alumni and Friends,” as it is on the current site. Our visitors and supporters who are not alumni need clear direction on where to click for information about alumni and friends events, etc. Thanks - and great job!

This is such an improvement! Other schools in Kentucky have updated their sites in recent years, so it is good that EKU has finally made some much needed changes. I think it looks much more modern. In turn, this will help recruit high school students to Eastern. The website is the first impression for many of them.
November 10th, 2008 at 1:04 pm
This is great. Visually appealing!
November 10th, 2008 at 12:42 pm
Much more visually appealing! Looks bright, clean, and user-friendly. We have been long overdue for a web-facelift. I can’t wait until this template is implemented campus-wide. Our office is certainly excited about picking it up.
Very well done.

Overall, I think it is beautiful. The colors and fonts are nice. I like the new layout. It keeps information in groups without having hard boxes drawn around everything. This seems much more open and inviting.
I agree the Calendars are in an akward location and the gray area to the right of events/news draws attention where it is not needed. My EKU should have a link for e-mails. It seems to look a little odd when we have links listed with two on the same line with a comma and seems inconsistant with the other links, especially when this is only done in three locations and there seems to be enough room for all of the links to be listed.
In regards to the bottom links, the EKUToday for Students & Faculty only seems to link to the EKUToday. Will there no longer be an EKUStudent Today?
Also, I’m not sure where it would be best located (either in My EKU or Inside Eastern), it would be nice to have a link to SGA’s page.

Comments on both New and Old Home Pages: I LOVE the addition of the Colonel’s Compass on a 1-click - it was hard to find before.
The Diversity page is embarrassing - the word University is boldly misspelled in the title. Also, images aren’t referenced correctly. It wasn’t so obvious when it wasn’t linked straight from the home page. A diversity page shouldn’t be so problematic for people with visual issues - the background is too dark for a black typeface.
Comments on the New Web Home Page: Overall, it is a big improvement - any criticisms below are only places where it could be even better.
I read the other comments that were made online - most of the negative ones made no sense to me, so you must have already fixed whatever it was!
But I did agree with one point - there should be a link from the home page to email, probably under MyEKU.
Also, under Welcome, the FIRST link, Visits, seems to be currently broken.
I love the “Campuses” link - I have had to search for extended campuses before - I never found a link to it that was more intuitive than just using the EKU search.
I don’t like that funny spot where the Calendars link is - and then under that gray box, there is a gray column at the far right where it is white above and my eye is drawn over there where there is no reason to look. There is nothing else like that on the page - I would put the Calendars up with the search like it used to be or I would put it under MyEKU.
If shading is supposed to indicate EKU on the map, then the Perkins / Stratton / Business area should be shaded.
On the “Administration” link, in the list of people on the Council, most do not have commas after their names, but a few at the end do. The Espanol link is cool.

Much better! This makes EKU look more professional…very impressed.
November 7th, 2008 at 11:44 pm
EKU e-mail needs to be able to be accessed from the homepage.
November 7th, 2008 at 11:36 pm
This is NOT an improvement.
There are too many grammatical errors.
November 7th, 2008 at 9:35 pm
The new site design is very clean and easy to navigate. I must add that it would look a little nicer if the entire homepage could fit into the window without having to scroll down. Also, I would really appreciate putting an EKU Email link under “My EKU.” I also feel like there should be more of a separation between the “News” and “Events” columns. I really enjoy the graphic, though, and the colors are streamlined and inviting. I suggest adding a little more maroon somewhere, though, just to tie everything together. If you could somehow make the entire page as exciting and interesting as the top graphic, that would be terrifc. Maybe add a few more things like the sunflowers that really “pop out.” I really like the photos that are next to the news links; it draws a lot of attention to it.
November 7th, 2008 at 5:53 pm
In the left hand menu, “Libraries, Planetarium” don’t really go together. Why not put them on two separate lines? Also, there’s a link for EKU Direct and Blackboard - a link for EKU email (owa) would also be helpful.

Thank the powers on campus who decided to update the EKU web information and improve the user interface for everyone! As an emeritus faculty, I know how to get around campus but people who don’t often find it daunting to search for buildings or parking spaces. The maps and information should make this much easier for prospective students. In addition, the entire page and links are MUCH more clearly identifiable. In the past, even as a faculty member, I found myself nearly floundering on the page to locate some bit of information that I knew was there. The designers have really done a wonderful job of presenting EKU and all campi in the most easily searched format I’ve seen for any college. Bravissimo!
November 7th, 2008 at 3:05 pm
The homepage is clean, functional and focuses on what EKU is about. The design clearly brings EKU in line with current Web design best practices. It really helps to put EKU’s best foot forward!
November 7th, 2008 at 1:51 pm
This is awesome! I love the use of EKU school colors. I like the fact that it focuses on prospective students. I also checked out the map and it too is really cool! Google maps is a real nice feature and will be a useful tool for those exploring Eastern before arriving on campus.
November 7th, 2008 at 1:24 pm
I love the new look. I really like the icons at the bottom. One small request- can a “return to the top” link be added under each letter section on the A to Z index.

Very nice understated design.

I really like how crisp and clean and bright everything looks. It is very fresh and bold and attractive. It is well organized too.
I think that having two options per row for a couple of the subjects under the Welcome, My EKU, and Inside Eastern may not work well, even though you have the underlined as you mouse over them.
While this is an excellent start, it is only a start, and it is very confusing and a little disorienting to click on the items in the menu bar and have them navigate away to the individual webpages that are so drastically different. I think that if you were to begin using this new homepage before having new pages for the others, it would not look good.
Great start though!
November 7th, 2008 at 1:00 pm
I do like that it is bright and inviting. However, it lacks the ability of EKU Students to navigate to their email. I like the news and events being posted, but I believe the my EKU section needs to have all the same functions we have on the current homepage or we need to have a link on the homepage called My EKU that leads you to a subpage to navigate to the Student Pages and Faculty/Staff Pages. Email, Direct, Blackboard, and whatever else is needed.
November 7th, 2008 at 12:58 pm
This is the kind of consistent branding EKU needs in all its outlets. The web site is relevant to users, and easy to navigate. Will it be easy for other EKU pages to mimic?
The text and layout is not only colorful and easy to read but makes an impressive statement about EKU. I would suggest adding EKU e-mail under the My EKU. However, it is only one click away.
MAKE THE CHANGE.
November 7th, 2008 at 12:36 pm
I don’t see EKU Email on this home page. Also, I think the top menu should have drop down menus to make it easier to navigate.
November 7th, 2008 at 12:11 pm
This will be a welcome change. It still have lots of information available but has a very clean look. I’m excited!!
November 7th, 2008 at 11:44 am
The word “Blog” is a contraction of the words “Web” and “Log”. It makes no sense to have “Web Blog”.
November 7th, 2008 at 11:34 am
I use my EKU e-mail daily. Can access be placed under “My EKU” along with the “EKU Direct”? That would be very helpful instead of having to go through a couple of screens to access our e-mail?
The site looks awesome and seems to be a lot better organized. I like the pictures for news and current events being more prominent.
I just don’t like to have to go through several drop-downs to get my e-mail.
Great Work!
November 7th, 2008 at 11:22 am
The new look is very simplistic and clean. It’s also easy to navigate. Good work!
November 7th, 2008 at 10:27 am
Where is the “Contact Us” button? I use this all the time, it is one of the buttons that I need to easily access on a daily basis. Other than that, looks good.
November 7th, 2008 at 10:10 am
I have always wondered why the news does not change very much. New stories come out but the front page always seems to have the same old stories. Sometimes they do not change for a month.
It is good to keep it fresh.
November 7th, 2008 at 10:06 am
Nicely done.
November 7th, 2008 at 10:05 am
Looks better overall — I like the maroon at the top with the reverse type - makes a bolder statement than the current EKU maroon over a white BG. Easier to read at first glance than current format — not quite as usy! What about a clickable link for prospective students - one of the most important users of the new site. Also, will this be the beginning of a new randing for the University? I.e., having all marketing/advertising coming out of the University having a a similar look and feel? I hope so!
November 7th, 2008 at 9:45 am
Like the new home page look. It doesn’t feel like we tried to cram everything on a single page, but looks like it may be easier to navigate.
November 7th, 2008 at 9:27 am
Now we just have to find everything again and hope the links still work. You didn’t tell us we had to fill in the CAPTCHA to submit!
November 7th, 2008 at 9:25 am
Looks very attractive, more streamlined.
November 7th, 2008 at 9:24 am
New home page design in very clean and inviting - intuitive, easy to navigate. Love the look and feel.
November 7th, 2008 at 9:23 am
I would change the bottom grey bar to white and use the icons from the same iconset. As of now, they are not uniform nor very appealing. For example, calendar icon looks over-resized and blurred, car icon is edgy, too black, big and harsh looking, notebook is nice, but blurry, monitor is ok, compass is too Apple like and has weird white highlights in 3 places.
Top menu - no mouse rollovers - there is no visual indicator that I am clicking on the button. I would include subtle, gentle rollover color or perhaps experiment with inverting the button colors on mouse_rollover.
Bar under the banner looks lonely and empty :).
Great design, but it needs some work.
November 7th, 2008 at 9:19 am
very nice!
November 7th, 2008 at 9:15 am
I like the color scheme. The gray area to the left is also more helpful than the old version.
November 7th, 2008 at 8:50 am
As a student, I have just taken a look at the new webpage design and I think that it looks really great! It is very bright and colorful and eye-catching!
November 7th, 2008 at 7:52 am
This kicks butt!!!! I LOVE it.
